atha dvitīya sargaḥ
ślō|| sa sāgara manādhr̥ṣya matikramya mahābalaḥ|
trikūṭa śikharē laṅkāṁ sthitāṁ svasthō dadarśa ha||1||
sa||saḥ mahābalaḥ anādhr̥ṣyaṁ sāgaraṁ svasthaḥ atikramya trikūṭa śikharē sthitām laṅkāṁ dadarśa ha||
That mighty Hanuman having comfortably crossed the ocean which is difficult to cross, saw the city of Lanka which stood on the peak of Trikuta mountain .
ślō|| tataḥ pādapamuktēna puṣpavarṣēṇa vīryavān |
abhivr̥ṣṭaḥ sthitastatra babhau puṣpamayau yathā||2||
sa|| tataḥ tatra sthitaḥ vīryavān pādapamuktēna puṣpavarṣēṇa abhivr̥ṣṭaḥ puṣpamayau yathā babhau||
Covered fully by the rain of flowers dropped from the trees , that heroic Hanuman appeared as though he was a heap of flowers.
ślō|| yōjanānāṁ śataṁ śrīmāṁ stīrtyā'pyuttamavikramaḥ|
aniśvr̥san kapistatra na glāniṁ adhigacchati||3||
sa|| śataṁ yōjanānām tīrtvā api uttama vikramaḥ śrīmān kapiḥ tatra glāniṁ na adhigacchati||
Even after having crossed a hundred yojanas that glorious monkey endowed with great prowess did not experience exhaustion.
ślō|| śatānyahaṁ yōjanānāṁ kramēyaṁ subahūnyapi|
ki punassāgarasyāṁtaṁ saṁkhyātaṁ śatayōjanam||4||
sa|| ahaṁ bahūni śatānyapi yōjanānāṁ kramēyaṁ | kiṁ punaḥ śatayōjana saṁkhyātaṁ sāgarasya aṁtaṁ (iti manyatām)||
(Hanuman said to himself) ' I can cross many hundreds of yojanas. What to say of the measured distance of a hundred yojanas.'
ślō|| sa tu vīryavatāṁśrēṣṭhaḥ plavatāmapi cōttamaḥ|
jagāma vēgavān laṅkāṁ laṅghayitvā mahōdadhim|| 5||
sa||vīryavatāṁ śrēṣṭhaḥ plavatāṁ api uttamaḥ saḥ tu vēgavān mahōdaddhiṁ laṅghayitvā laṅkāṁ jagāma||
The best among the courageous and the best among the Vanaras noted for his speed reached Lanka having crossed the sea on his own.
ślō|| śādvalāni ca nīlāni gandhavanti vanāni ca|
gaṁḍavaṁti ca madhyēna jagāma nagavaṁti ca ||6||
sa||(saḥ) gandhavanti nīlāni śādvalāni vanāni ca nagavanti ganḍavanti madhyēna jagāma||
He passed through dark colored fragrant grasslands and mountains filled with rocks.
ślō|| śailāṁśca tarusaṁchannān vanarājīśca puṣpitāḥ|
abhicakrāma tējasvī hanumān plavagarṣabhaḥ||7||
sa|| plavagarṣabhaḥ tējasvī hanumān tarusaṁchannān śailāṁ ca puṣpitāḥ vanarājīśca abhicakrāma||
The brilliant Hanuman , a bull among Vanaras crossed the mountains dense with blossoming trees and forest ranges.
ślō|| sa tasmin acalē tiṣṭhan vanān upavanāni ca|
sa nagāgrē ca tāṁ laṅkāṁ dadarśa pavanātmajaḥ|| 8||
sa|| saḥ pavanātmajaḥ tasmin acalē tiṣṭhan vanāni upavanāni ca nagāgrē tāṁ laṁkāṁ dadarśa||
That son of wind god standing on that mountain saw forests and gardens around Lanka situated on the mountain peak.
ślō|| saraḷān karṇikārāṁśca kharjurāṁśca supuṣpitān|
priyālūn muciḷiṁdāṁśca kuṭajānkētakānapi||9||
priyāṁgūn gaṁdhapūrṇāṁścanīpān saptacchadāṁ stathā|
āsanān kōvidārāṁśca karavīrāṁśca puṣpitān ||10||
puṣpabhāra nibaddhāṁśca tathā mukuḷitā napi |
pādapān vihāgakīrṇān pavanādhūta mastakān || 11||
haṁsakāraṁḍavākīrṇā vāpīḥ padmōtpalāyutāḥ|
akrīḍān vividhān ramyān vividhāṁśca jalāśayān ||12||
saṁtatān vividhai rvr̥kṣaiḥ sarvartu phalapuṣpitaiḥ|
udyānāni ca ramyāṇi dadarśa kapikuṁjaraḥ||13||
sa|| (saḥ) saralān karṇikārāṁ ca supuṣpitān kharjūrāṁścapriyāḷān muciḷiṁdāṁśca (dadarśa)|| (saḥ)kuṭajān kētakān api gandhapūrṇān nīpān priyāṁgūṁśca tathā saptacchadāṁ āsanān puṣpitān karavīrāṁśca (dadarśa) || puṣpābhāra nibaddhāṁśca tathā mukuḷitānapi vihāga kīrṇān pavanādhūta mastakān pādapān (dadarśa)|| haṁsakāraṁḍavākīrṇā vāpiḥ padmōtpalāyutāḥ vividhān ramyān akrīḍān jalāśayān ( dadarśa)|| sarva r̥tu phalapuṣpitaiḥvividhaiḥ vr̥kṣaiḥ saṁtatān ramyāṇi udyānāni ca kapikuṁjaraḥ dadarśa||
(He saw) Saralas Karnikaras, well blossomed Khajuras, Priyaalas and Muchilimdas too. (He saw) Kutajas, Ketakas filled with fragrance, Nipas, Priyamgus as well as Saptacchadas, Asanas, and flowering Karaviras too. (He saw) trees heavily loaded with flowers as well as buds, trees full of birds with branches shaken by the wind. (He saw) flocks of Swans and water fowls in ponds and variety of beautiful pleasure gardens and water resorts. The best of Vanaras also saw beautiful gardens filled with variety of trees that flower all seasons.

kāṁcanēnāvr̥tāṁ ramyāṁ prākārēṇa mahāpurīm|
gr̥haiśca grahasaṁkāśaiḥ śāradāṁbudasannibhaiḥ||16||
pāḍurābhiḥ pratōḷībhi ruccābhi rabhisaṁvr̥tām|
aṭṭālaśatākīrṇāṁ patākādhvajamālinīm||17||
tōraṇaiḥ kāṁcanairdivyaiḥ latāpaṅktivicitritaiḥ|
dadarśa hanumān laṅkāṁ divi dēva purīm yathā||18||
sa||lakṣmīvān (hanumān) rāvaṇapālitāṁ laṅkāṁ samāsadya parighābhiḥ sapadmābhiḥ utpalābhiḥ alaṁkr̥tām (dadarśa) || sītāpaharaṇārthēna surakṣitām ugradhanvibhiḥ vicaradbhiḥ rākṣasaiḥ samaṁtāt (laṁkāṁ dadarśa) || kāṁcanēna prākārēṇa āvr̥tāṁ ramyāṁ mahāpurīṁ grahasaṁkāśaiḥ śāradāṁbudasannibhaiḥ gr̥haiśca (laṅkāṁ dadarśa) || pāṇdurābhiḥ ucchābhiḥ patākadhvajamālinīm aṭṭālaśatākīrṇām abhisaṁvr̥tām pratōlībhiḥ (laṅkāṁ dadarśa) || divyaiḥ kāṁcanaiḥ latāpaṁktivicitritaiḥ tōraṇaiḥ divi dēvapurīm yathā laṅkāṁ dadarśa||
That fortunate Hanuman having reached Lanka ruled by Ravana saw the city of Lanka surrounded by moats full of lotuses and water lilies. (He saw) the city well protected by moving demons holding frightening bows keeping in view Sita's abduction by Ravana. (He saw) the great city surrounded by golden boundary wall resembling assembly of planets and houses resembling autumnal clouds. (He saw) White elevated houses crowded streets decorated with banners flag posts and garlands. He saw wonderful Lanka with rows of golden festoons and creepers looking like the city of gods.
ślō|| girimūrdhni sthitāṁ laṅkāṁ pāṁḍurairbhavanai śśubhaiḥ|
dadarśa kapiśrēṣṭhaḥ puraṁ ākāśagaṁ yathā||19||
sa|| saḥ kapiśrēṣṭhaḥ pāṇḍuraiḥ śubhaiḥ bhavanaiḥ girimūrdhni sthitāṁ ākāsagataṁ yathā purīṁ laṁkām dadarśa||
That best among Vanaras saw the city of Lanka with white and auspicious looking mansions sitting on top of the mountains as if touching the sky.
ślō|| pālitāṁ rākṣasēṁdrēṇa nirmitāṁ viśvakarmaṇā|
plavamānā mivākāśē dadarśa hanumān purīm||20||
vapraprākāra jaghānāṁ vipulāmbunavāmburām|
śataghnīśūlakēśāntā maṭṭālakavataṁsakām||21||
manasēva kr̥tāṁ laṅkāṁ nirmitāṁ viśvakarmaṇā|
dvāra muttara māsādya cintayāmāsa vānaraḥ||22||
sa|| hanumān viśvakarmaṇā nirmitaṁ rākṣasēṁdrēṇa pālitāṁ akāsē plavamāniva purīṁ dadarśa|| vānaraḥ uttara dvāram āsādya viśvakarmaṇā nirmitāṁ laṅkāṁ vapraprākāra jaghanāṁ vipulāmbunavāmburām śataghnī śūlakēśāntām aṭṭālakavataṁśakām iva manaḥ kr̥tām iti cintayāmāsa ||
Hanuman saw the city ruled by Ravana built by Vishwakarma looking as though it was floating in the sky. The Vanara having reached the northern gate started thinking that Vishwakarma built Lanka with ramparts and forts as hips and loins, spiked iron rods for locks of hair, tall towers for earrings of a woman in his mind .

ḍīyamānā mivākāśaṁ ucchritairbhavanōttamaiḥ||23||
sampūrṇāṁ rākṣasai rghōrairnāgai bhōgavatīmiva |
acintyāṁ sukr̥tāṁ spaṣṭāṁ kubērādhyuṣitāṁ purā||24||
daṁṣṭribhiḥ bahubhi śśūrai śśūlapaṭṭasapāṇibhiḥ|
rakṣitāṁ rākṣasairghōrai rguhā māśīviṣai riva|| 25||
tasyāśca mahatīṁ guptiṁ sāgaraṁ nirīkṣya saḥ|
rāvaṇaṁ ca ripuṁ ghōraṁ ciṁtayāmāsa vānaraḥ||26||
sa||kailāsa śikhara prakhyāṁ ambaraṁ ālikhantīṁ iva ucchritaiḥ ākāśaṁ ḍiyamanāiva bhavanōttamaiḥ ( nirīkṣya ca ), nāgaiḥ bhōgavatīṁ iva ghōraiḥ rākṣasaiḥ saṁpūrṇām purā kubērādhyuṣitāṁ sukr̥tam acintyāṁ ( nirīkṣya ca), daṁṣṭrabhiḥ āśīviṣaiḥ guhām iva bahubhiḥ śūlapaṭṭasa pāṇibhiḥ vīraiḥ rakṣitām ( laṁkāṁ nirīkṣya ca ), tasyāḥ mahatīṁ guptiṁ sāgaraṁ ca ripuṁ rāvaṇaṁ ca nirīkṣya saḥ vānaraḥ cintayāmāsa||
With skyscrapers scraping the sky and excellent mansions looking as if flying in the sky, the city of Lanka was resembling mount Kailas. It was filled with demons like the netherworld which is filled with serpents. Well-built with unimaginable beauty, it was earlier once occupied by Kubera. The warriors holding those tridents and spears were looking like the venomous serpents with protruding fangs. Observing all of that as well as the great security, the sea and the terrific enemy Ravana, the Vanara started thinking.
ślō|| āgatyāpīha harayō bhaviṣyaṁti nirarthakāḥ|
na hi yuddhēna vai laṅkā śakyā jētuṁ surairapi||27||
imāṁ viṣamāṁ durgāṁ laṅkāṁ rāvaṇapālitāṁ|
prāpyāpi sa mahābāhuḥ kiṁ kariṣyati rāghavaḥ||28||
sa|| harayaḥ iha āgatyā api nirarthakāḥ bhaviṣyanti| surairapi laṅkā yuddhēna jētuṁ na śakyā hi|| imāṁ rāvaṇa pālitāṁ laṅkāṁ viṣamāṁ durgām prāpyāpi sa mahābāhuḥ rāghavaḥ (rāmaḥ ) kiṁ kariṣyati ||
'Even if the Vanaras come here, they will not serve any purpose. Lanka is invincible in war even for Devas. What can the mighty armed Rama do if he reaches this impregnable fort ruled by Ravana'.
ślō|| avakāśō na sāntvasya rākṣasēṣvabhigamyatē|
na dānasya na bhēdasya naiva yuddhasya dr̥śyatē||29||
caturṇāmēva hi gatiḥ vānarāṇāṁ mahātmanām|
vāliputrasya nīlasya mama rājñaśca dhīmataḥ||30||
yāvajjānāmivaidēhīṁ yadi jīvativā navā|
tatraiva ciṁtayiṣyāmi dr̥ṣṭvā tāṁ janakātmajam||31||
sa|| rākṣaṣēṣu sāntvasya avakāśaḥ na abhigamyatē | dānasya na| bhēdasya na| yuddhasya naiva dr̥śyatē|| vāliputrasya nīlasya mama dhīmataḥ rājñaśca māhātmanāṁ vārāṇāṁ caturṇāṁ vānarāṇāṁ ēva gatiḥ hi ||vaidēhīṁ yadi jīvati vā na vā yāvat jānāmi tāṁ janakātmajaṁ dr̥ṣṭvā tatraiva cintayiṣyāmi||
'There is no possibility of reconciliation with the Rakshasas. No use of gifts . No possibility of dissension. War too is not feasible. Only four of the Vanaras (namely) Vali's son, Nila and the wise Vanara king Sugriva and myself can (cross the sea and ) come here. Whether Janaka's daughter Vaidehi is alive or not is not known. Only after seeing her only I will think further'.
ślō|| tatassaciṁtayāmāsa muhūrtaṁ kapikuṁjaraḥ|
gririśr̥ṅgē sthitaḥ tasmin rāmasyābhyudayē rataḥ||32||
sa|| tataḥ saḥ kapikuṁjaraḥ tasmin giriśr̥ṅgē sthitaḥ rāmasya abhyudayē rataḥ muhūrtaṁ cintayāmāsa||
Then the best among Vanaras interested in Rama's success and standing on the peak of the mountain pondered for a while.
ślō|| anēna rūpēṇa mayā na śakyā rakṣasāṁ purī|
pravēṣṭhuṁ rākṣasairguptā krūrairbalasamanvitaiḥ||33||
ugraujasō mahāvīryā balavaṁtaśca rākṣasāḥ|
vaṁcanīyā mayā sarvē jānakīṁ parimārgatā||34||
lakṣyālakṣyēṇa rūpēṇa rātrau laṁkāpurī mayā|
pravēṣṭuṁ prāptakālaṁ mē kr̥tyaṁ sādhayitum mahat||35||
sa|| krūraiḥ balasamanvitaiḥ rākṣasaiḥ guptā rakṣasāṁ purī anēna rūpēṇa pravēṣṭuṁ na śakyā || jānakīṁ parimārgitā mayā ugraujasaḥ mahāvīryāḥ balavantaśca rākṣasāḥ sarvē vaṁca nīyāḥ || mahat kr̥tyaṁ sādhayituṁ mayā lakṣyā lakṣyēṇa rūpēṇa rātrau laṁkāpurīṁ pravēṣṭuṁ prāptakālam rātrau (hi)||
'In the present form it is not possible to enter the city guarded by fierce and powerful demons. While searching for Janaki all the valiant and powerful demons need to be deceived. To accomplish this great task by me , the appropriate time to enter the city in inconspicuous form is the night only'.
ślō|| tāṁ purīṁ tādr̥śīṁ dr̥ṣṭvā durādharṣāṁ surāsuraiḥ|
hanumān ciṁtayāmāsa viniścitya muhurmuhuḥ|| 36||
sa||surāsuraiḥ durādarṣaṁ tāṁ purīṁ dr̥ṣṭvā muhurmuhuḥ hanumān cintayāmāsa||
Looking at the city which is impregnable even for Devas and other demons, sighing repeatedly Hanuman started to reflect.
ślō|| kēnōpāyēna paśyēyaṁ maithilīṁ janakātmajām|
adr̥ṣṭhō rākṣasēṁdrēṇa rāvaṇēna durātmanā||37||
na vinaśyēt kathaṁ kāryaṁ rāmasya viditātmanaḥ|
ēkāmēkaśca paśyēyaṁ rahitē janakātmajām||38||
sa|| durātmanā rāvaṇēna adr̥ṣṭō kēnōpāyēna maithilīṁ janakātmajāṁ paśyēyaṁ||viditātmanaḥ rāmasya kāryaṁ kathaṁ na vinaśyēt | ēkaśca rahitē janakātmajām ēkām paśyēyaṁ ||
'Without being seen by the evil minded Ravana, Maithili, the daughter of Janaka is to be seen somehow. How can the noble Rama's task be achieved ? I Should be able to see the daughter of Janaka alone ( without being notices by the Rakshasas)'.
ślō|| bhūtaścārthā vipadyaṁtē dēśakālavirōdhitāḥ|
viklabaṁ dūtamāsādya tama sūryōdayē yathā||39||
arthānarthāṁtarē buddhirniścitā'pi naśōbhatē |
ghātayaṁti hi kāryāṇi dūtāḥ paṁḍitamāninaḥ||40||
sa|| sūryōdayē tamaḥ yathā vipadyantē ( tathaiva) dēśakālāvirōdhitāḥ bhūtaścārthāḥ viklabaṁ dūtaṁ āsādya (vipadyantē)|| arthānarthāntarē niścitāpi buddhiḥ naśōbhatē dūtāḥ paṁḍitamānitāḥ kāryāṇi ghātayaṁti ||
'Just as darkness melts away at the sunrise , the well laid plans also disappear in the hands of a thoughtless messenger. Even after the proper course of action and inaction is decided, the ignorant messengers thinking themselves to be clever spoil the effort'.
ślō|| na vinaśyēt kathaṁ kāryaṁ vaiklabyaṁ na kathaṁ bhavēt|
laṁghanaṁ ca samudrasya kathaṁ nu na vr̥thābhavēt||41||
mayi dr̥ṣṭē tu rakṣōbhi rāmasya viditātmanaḥ|
bhavēdvarthamidaṁ kāryaṁ rāvaṇānartha micchataḥ||42||
sa|| kāryaṁ kathaṁ vinaśyēt | vaiklabyaṁ katham nabhavēt | samudrasya laṁghanaṁ kathaṁ nu na vr̥thābhavēt|| yadi mayi rakṣōbhi dr̥ṣṭē tu viditātmanaḥ rāvaṇānarthaṁ icchataḥ rāmasya idaṁ kāryaṁ vyarthaṁ bhavēt ||
'How to ensure that the task is not destroyed? How to avoid thoughtlessness? How to ensure the effort of crossing the ocean is not wasted? If I am seen by the demons the desire of the noble Rama to destroy Ravana will be hindered'.
ślō|| na hi śakyaṁ kvacit sthātuṁ avijñātēna rākṣasaiḥ|
api rākṣasa rūpēṇa kimutānyēna kēna cit||43||
vāyurapyatra nājñātaḥ carēt iti matirmama|
na hyasta viditaṁ kiṁcit rākṣasānāṁ balīyasām||44||
sa|| rākṣasa rūpēṇāpi rākṣasaiḥ avijñātēna sthātuṁ na hi śakyaṁ | anyēna kēnacit ( rūpēṇa) kimuta|| atra vāyuḥ api na ājñātaḥ carēt iti mama matiḥ| balīyasāṁ rākṣasānāṁ kiṁcit (api) aviditaṁ nāsti hi ||
'Even in the disguise of a demon it is difficult stay with these demons (undetected). What to say of any other form. Here even the wind will not move without being ordered. Nothing escapes the notice of these powerful demons'.
ślō|| ihāhaṁ yadi tiṣṭāmi svēna rūpēṇa saṁvr̥taḥ|
vināśamupayāsyāmi bharturarthaśca hīyatē||45||
tadahaṁ svēna rūpēṇa rajanyāṁ hrasvatāṁ gataḥ|
laṁkāṁ abhipatiṣyāmi rāghavasyārtha siddhayē||46||
sa|| yadi svēna rūpēṇa saṁvr̥taḥ ahaṁ iha tiṣṭhāmi vināśaṁ upayāsyāmi| bhartuḥ arthaśca hīyatē|| tataḥ rāghavasya artha siddhayē ahaṁ svēna rūpēṇa hrasvatāṁ gataḥ rajanyāṁ laṁkāṁ abhipatiṣyāmi||
'If I stay in my present form (I) will surely invite destruction and Rama's task will be destroyed too. So for achieving Rama's objective I will make my form smaller and jump into Lanka in the night'.
ślō|| rāvaṇasya purīm rātrau praviśya sudurāsadām|
vicinvan bhavanaṁ sarvaṁ drakṣyāmi janakātmajām||47||
iti saṁcitya hanumān sūryasyāstamayaṁ kapiḥ|
ācakāṁkṣē tadā vīrō vaidēhyā darśanōtsukaḥ||48||
sa|| sudurāsadaṁ rāvaṇasya purīṁ rātrau praviśya sarvaṁ bhavanaṁ vicinvan janakātmajāṁ drakṣyāmi|| hanumān vīraḥ iti saṁcitya tadā kapiḥ vaidēhyā darśanōtsukaḥ sūryasya astamayaṁ ācakāṁkṣē||
'Entering the impregnable city in the night I will search all the palaces and find Sita'. Having planned in this manner Hanuman , the excited Vanara warrior awaited Sunset in anticipation of seeing Sita.
ślō|| sūryē cāstaṁ gatē rātrau dēhaṁ saṁkṣipya mārutiḥ|
vr̥ṣadaṁśakamātrassan babhūvādbhuta darśanaḥ||49||
pradōṣakālē hanumāṁstūrṇa mutplutya vīryavān|
pravivēśa purīṁ ramyāṁ suvibhakta mahāpathām||50||
sa|| mārutiḥ sūryē ca astaṁ gatē vr̥ṣadaṁśakamātraḥ san dēhaṁ saṁkṣipya adbhuta darśanaḥ babhūva|| vīryavān hanumāṇan pradōṣakālē tūrṇaṁ utplutya suvibhaktamahāpathāṁ ramyāṁ purīṁ pravivēśa||
After the sunset Maruti reduced himself to the size of a cat in a form that is wonderful to behold. The courageous Hanuman at once jumped in and entered the well laid out main paths of the beautiful city.

śātakuṁbhamayai rjālaiḥ gaṁdharvanagarōpamām|| 51||
saptabhaumāṣṭabhaumaiśca muktājāla vibhūṣitaiḥ|
talaiḥ sphāṭika saṁkīrṇaiḥ kārtasvaravibhūṣitaiḥ||52||
vaiḍūryamaṇicitraiśca muktājāla vibhūṣitaiḥ|
talaiḥ śuśśubhirē tāni bhavanānyatra rakṣasām||53||
sa|| saḥ prāsādamālāvitatām kāṁcana rājataiḥ staṁbhaiḥ śātakuṁbhamayaiḥ jālaiḥ gaṁdharva nagarōpamam ( mahāpurīm dadarśa) || saptabhaumāṣṭabhaumaiśca muktājālavibhūṣitaiḥ sphāṭika saṁkīrṇaiḥ talaiḥ kārtasvara vibhūṣitaiḥ (mahāpurīṁ dadarśa) || atra rakṣasāṁ bhavanāni vaiḍhūryamaṇi citraiśca muktājālavibhūṣitaiḥ talaiḥ śuśubhirē||
He saw the city resembling the city of Gandharvas , filled with rows of mansions with gold and silver pillars with window work made of gold. He saw the seven and eight level mansions with windows ornamented with pearls and floors inlaid with crystals. Here the mansions of the demons inlaid with precious gems windows ornamented with pearls, the floors looked splendid.

The Golden colorful archways of the demons decorated all over illumined the Lanka everywhere. The great Vanara seeing the unimaginably beautiful and wonderful Lanka was glad with excitement of the possibility of seeing Vaidehi and sad at the same time ( not knowing how he will find her)

He saw the city ruled by Ravana having a garland of white mansions with many floors, having archways and windows laced with gold strings and protected by famed warriors of great strength.

sa|| naika sahasra rasmibhiḥ candrō'pitārāgaṇaiḥ madhyagataḥ virājan lōkam jyōtsnāvitānēna vitatya asya sācivyaṁ kurvanniva uttiṣṭhatē|| saḥ haripravīraḥ udgacchamānaṁ śaṁkhaprabham vyavabhāsamānam kṣīramr̥ṇālavarṇam sarasi pōplūyamānam haṁsaṁ iva candraṁ dadarśa||
At that time the moon rose with thousand rays in the center of a multitude of stars, spreading and providing a canopy of moon light as if providing ministerial services to Hanuman. The heroic Vanara saw the rising Moon flitting in and out , shining like a fresh white conch in the colors of milk and lotus stalk, looking like a swan floating in lake like sky.
ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē vālmīkīyē
caturviṁśat sahasrikāyāṁ saṁhitāyām
śrīmatsundarakāṇḍē dvitīya ssargaḥ||
Thus ends the second Sarga of Sundarakanda in Ramayana, the first ever poem of mankind composed by Maharshi Valmiki.
